Don't you just love something new? The excitement of opening a package when it arrives…the smell of a new car…a new set of bath towels…you get the picture. 

New babies are probably my all time favorite….all the little features you get to explore, sounds they make and ways they move. Such an amazing thing, new life.  Along with new life, especially for first time parents, comes a new role for them too. Being a mom or a dad is new when your first baby arrives. A whole new identity with a life dependent on you, in love with you, and also demanding of  you! 

Photographing these parents, first timers, is another favorite of mine. They are learning the ropes of life with this new little creature…it's touch and go, a tag team effort, and everything, I mean everything is new…like how you find time to get a shower to how you get all those snaps on the baby's sleeper buttoned up!!! But after a while, the 'newness' settles in and parents are comfy and confident in their status change. They may even have a minute to look at each other and think, "Wow, we did it!" That's what this first picture from a recent session made me think of. Enjoy.
