I recently challenged myself to create a scene to shoot my god-daughter in. I wanted to capture her playing ...I wanted something that would hold her attention as well as create an interesting image and give a fun, playful feel to the shots without looking full of props just junking up the scene and competing with actually capturing images of her.
I spent a lot of time collecting things....vintage picnic basket, felt foods made by craftspeople on etsy, rescued chairs from the trash and painted them up, dug up vintage linens from my own collection and even found vintage melamine dishes on etsy. (I am addicted to etsy).
Here is the result...I am pleased with my first attempt at "creating a scene", mostly with the adorable facial expressions and little world of pretend play she went into as I clicked away. She was just enjoying her time so much I even entered one in a contest at I Heart Faces since the theme for the month is "Enjoying Life". http://www.iheartfaces.com/2012/07/monthly-photo-challenge-enjoying-life/ Enjoy.
